Default My Build :)

I have a few questions for you guys/girls.

Im new to pretty much modifying my truck. I have added a custom Magnaflow dual exhaust and a Spectre CAI. What I am wanting to do is put a better, nicer looking set of rims and tires on my truck.

I have a 2001 Dodge ram 1500, Laramie SLT, that is a single cab short bed. The gearing is stock. From the factory, I have a stock 3 inch lift. Right now, it sits on 285/75/16R for rims and tires. I was thinking maybe a 2 inch offset for the rims to give the truck a wider look.

-What would you guys recommend me doing to run a bigger tire/rim combo?

-What would be a good tire/rim setup ( as in size of the rim/tire )?

- What offset would be good on the rims?

Heres what my truck looks like as of now.

A buddy of mine has a 1998 2500. Not much different from your 2001
He has a Rough Country 5inch lift with the blocks on the leafs.
His wheels are 18inch steel wheels with chrome center caps.
The tires he has are Wild Country 35's these are re-threads.
The offset on the wheels is a -12 I think based on how much they stick up past the fender. He ended up Herculin-ing the sills because of all the kick from the tires since he has no fenders.

Hope this helps

A -12 offset will get you about 1.75 to 2.0 of tire outside the wheelwell.

Can't pick your wheels for ya...they are more of an aesthetic choice and what looks good to me may not look good to you. bigwheels.net has a great selection of wheels to view.

About the tires, are you gonna be off road? Do you want the off-road look? If so, check out the Cooper LTZ's, Mickey Thompson Baja's, Toyo Open Country M/T's, Nitto's and BFG's.

I'm not too sure on the fender flares. I bought the truck with them on it.

I'm wanting to go with the off road look. I don't do any off roading with the truck, thats why I have my race quad lol. I have looked at wheels/tires. I'm going to get XD Rockstars with a set of Nittos, still deciding on which ones. I won't get the mud grapplers, they wear too fast lol.

As for the lift, I still don't know what to do as for how big of a lift I need. I can't decide, maybe you guys can help? I want to put 18x9 inch rims with the -12 offset on my truck. Any input would be great..

What size tire you going with?

All you may need is a leveling kit or you might need a small lift (4") depending on whether you are gonna go with a 31" or 33" tire vs. a 35" or taller tire.

I dont want to have to change my gearing. So Im thinking a 33" tire would be fine.

The setup I have found to like the most are the XD Rockstars with Nitto Trail Grappler MT's. I'm not too sure on tire sizes or how to tell. I want 18" rims..what size trail grappler is a 33?

Then I'd go with a level kit if you want 33" tall tires.

A 33X12.50R18 would work. Minimum rim width would be 9".

So would an LT275/70RX18 but that won't be as wide as the 33X12.50 and with a -12mm offset, that should fit just fine.

i went and measured the fender wells on my truck. A 2.5" leveling kit in the front will work with the -12 offset.

Thanks for helping me on this MADDOG, I really appreciate it.
