Why would you only expect 20hp for the newer 4.7? It's dyno proven to give 50hp on 91 octane and a few more on 93 octane....? I posted above what the older 4.7 was supposed to get, I think it was around 20 or so hp. Keep in mind, with any tuner, the posted numbers are usually max gain, not peak gain. What that means is that for example on my newer 4.7, the max gain is 50hp, which might be at 3000rpm's or so, where stock hp was say 200, and now is 250 with the tune, and the stock peak hp was 310 at say 4500 rpm, where now it is say 325 at the same 4500 rpm, with the tune. So you see the peak hp only increased 15hp, but through the entire rpm range it varies (this is not a bad thing, I'd rather have more increased power where you actually use it low in the rpm's). I just wanted to clarify this if anyone didn't know this, they get alot of people screaming at them saying they lie about their numbers, but they are in fact correct, alot of people just look at the peak numbers. Whatever tuner you get (superchips or diablo) you will get the results that they post, don't be weary of that, they are both very reputable companies that back up their products, and I have had a fair amount of experience with superchips (myself and alot of friends), adn a little bit with diablo (through friends), and no one has ever been disappointed with either product. A tuner is definitely the best bang for the buck, and it's very easy to do/use and easily reversible. I just got my truck back from superchips friday they were working out a bug I was having and they guy told me that the person who started diablo used to work for superchips. This doesn't really matter I guess, I just found it very interesting...

To kelr31: I just reread this whole post, it sounds like you have other things going on with your truck if you only get 13mpg highway even with the mileage tune! Especially if you're 2wd. My dad has the older 4.7L, 2wd, and gets 17mpg all around, no matter how he drives or what he hauls/tows. Also. the 87 tune can actually decrease the hp on some models FYI, to help prevent pinging noise and detonation, this is to help preserve the engine life. With that being said, it may still run a faster 0-60 or 1/4 mile due to crisper shifts and things like that...

I wasn't trying to say that the newer 4.7s would only gain a max of 20-25 hp. I just meant that about everything I have read has been about the newer 4.7 and they seem to respond very well to a programmer. 20-25 wheel hp is a lot. But it's not hard for me to believe that those engines would gain that much or more based on what I have read. I just haven't been able to find as much convincing info about the older 4.7s.

Gotcha. To me, if they post their numbers, that's convincing enough, as long as they are reputable. It's not like some other companies with say exhaust or intakes that say "adds up to 20hp!" and really you might get 5 on your model or something, if superchips or diablo say you'll get 18hp and 20ft lb, or whatever it is for your model, you will get it. They post their numbers based on dyno results from specific models, no "up to" nonsense. When I first got my tuner I noticed a big difference, but when you REALLY notice the difference is when you return the tune back to stock. While superchips had my truck last week they got me a rental, exactly the same as my truck, and it felt sooooo slow, lol. But back to the real topic you posted on....I also don't know anyone using a tuner on the older 4.7L, I tried talking my dad and brother into one(we all have 4.7L), but they hardly drive and said since both of them have driven less than 30,000 miles in 6 years they don't really care about it. I on the other hand have driven 8,000 miles since I bought my truck (february), so as I am in my truck all the time I care about every little bit. Maybe that could help you decide as well....how much you drive?

I have a work vehicle so I normally only drive my truck on the weekends, lol. I'll probably be lucky to put 4-5k miles on it in a year. But it is kind've my toy as well. I can't afford a sports car (would like to have a newer Mustang GT or maybe a Charger) to mod and play with so my truck has to serve that purpose as well.

marshall...I have read numerous times that a programmer will void your warranty if they find out about it. I have also read that neither the DS Predator nor the SC Flashpaq leave a "footprint" but all if this is solely stuff I have read while researching, not fact that I can attest to. What kind of warranty do you have on a 4-5 year old truck?

It's one they sold me when I bought the truck, they said it's exactly like the factory warranty as far as after market stuff goes, I'll probably call and ask to be sure but I'm sure it probably will void it, it's a 3 year 36k mile warranty that covers pretty much everything

Ahhhhh, gotcha. Yeah, I'll just about bet they will tell you it will void it. In my experience aftermarket warranty providers will screw you over even faster than the factory, lol. They aren't worried about selling you another car of the same brand years down the road so they don't care if they piss you off.
