Default Got my power outlet put in today

So it is true that once you get the MOD bug it is very hard to get rid of it. BTW my wife thinks I'm retarded at times (well maybe all the time).

So it started with this:

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=84213

Today I had some free time so I stopped into my local auto parts store after a trip to the dealers (AC recall notice, no big deal). I picked up a universal 12V power socket, 14 gauge in line fuse harness, some 20 amp in line fuses (20 amps is the rated load judging by the factory fuse under the hood) and some wire.

As stated in the other thread I wanted to have the outlet in the back. So while snooping around I see that there are some components under the center console. To get a better vantage I removed the center console, just 4 13mm nuts and it was out. Doing so I found a great ground but didn't see a good place to tie in the power. So I pulled off the bezel (again) and ran wire from the right side dash outlet. I pick this one because it's constantly hot, not just when the key in in the accessory position. I ran the wire under the carpet and up to the back side of the dash. I used the splice clip that came with the universal outlet to tap into the hot side. I hooked the battery cable back up and tested it out before closing everything up. Works great!!

Very nice install! Did that bracket come with the socket kit, or did you fashion that from something?

Looks like a great little install. Maybe for the next mod you can install a second power inverter for a 115v outlet and then you could plug in almost anything back there.

Bracket came with the plug. There was a hole in the bracket so rather than using the screw that came in the kit, I used a nut, bolt and washer from my stash.

Already thinking about that

I guess I would have to mount it under the rear seat maybe. Due to the heavy power load on it I'm thinking a single power line right off the battery would be the way to go.

I had a 115v inverter that plugged into the 12v socket. I used it in my old truck. I kept blowing fuses if I but a heavy load on it.

Thanks for the post. I'm thinking of doing this but running it to an inverter so the kids can charge their iPods during long trips.

I too am thinking about adding a power inverter. Please post when you get your complete, I'd be interested in how you did yours.
