Thumbs up Cheap and easy antenna mod w/pics

Installed a new Sickspeed carbon fiber stubby antenna this evening. Bought it from their website for $10.95 plus shipping of $5.95 (way too much for such a little package). Took less than two minutes to install. And it looks awesome! Sorry about the pics but the sun was going down and light was limited. Quick test of reception in the driveway yielded no difference in sat radio (which I use the most). Jury is still out on FM channels but I will try to test them.

VERDICT: Absolutely love the look. Package comes with multiple parts to ensure proper fit and look. Company shipped it within five days of ordering but the shipping charge is outrageous for a tiny package that weighs nothing.

I really like mine too!

Curious to see how your FM reception is. I noticed quite a huge decrease in reception as well and interference issues with mine. Not a huge deal for me as I mostly listen to sat.

Thanks Stump3r. Your truck may very well be where I got the idea. If so, thank you! Can't remember whose original post made me take the leap so my apologies for that. Either way, I am glad I did. Honestly, I could care less about FM reception as I never use it (I hate all those @*%$!&! commercials) . Like you, I am a satellite guy and it seems to work just fine for that. But I will try to test FM for the sake of others on the forum who do not have sat.

Thanks MD. Always been a little short and stubby but married for 23 years now so the, uh..."reception" can't be all that bad. Kinda like golf...short and straight will get you to the hole faster than long and crooked!

The Satelite signal is on the roof and won't be affected by the stub on the fender. The fender antenna is tuned to a specific wavelength and unless you are using a matched 1/2 or 1/4 wave antenna length you will see degraded reception. I, like you, don't see an issue because I prefer to use my iPod or the satellite. I've ordered on from an eBay store. Hope it gets here soon.
