how to clean the fuel filter?
|
i have 2005 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and i need to know how to get to the fuel filter so i can clean it because my check engine light came on?

you can't, the fuel screen is part of the fuel pump which is located in the tank. you have to replace the fuel pump to replace filter. What was your check engine light for? did you read the code(s)?

on my last truck, '99 chevy 1500
i had my fuel pump changed twice, first time the tank was dropped, it was almost empty, it was still a pain
2nd time the tank was full, the bed was lifted off the frame & the tank was left in place & it was an easy change, but it took 3 people to get the bed back on the frame correctly, it somehow got tweaked & needed to be squared up a bit.
i don't know if Dodges are the same

Under normal conditions it's only necessary to replace the filter (screen) in the tank when replacing the fuel pump . They don't clog up like a filter does .
