Default Need major help please!!

Hey guys im new to this site i have a major problem i have a 1996 dodge ram 1500 4x4 i took the old worn 5.9 out of it and put in a 5.9 from a 1997 dodge sst 2wd when i completed the swap i noticed when i put it in reverse the engine dies but when im driving it forward it hits all other gears perfect now this is the kicker when the truck went in the garage for the swap it had reverse now i put it in reverse engine dies hopefully someone else has had this problem any help will be greatly appreciated

it could be a simple adjustment of the linkage
one of my other trucks linkage was out of adjustment & would be both in reverse & first at the same time, i left it that way, made a good anti theft device
moving the shift lever a certain way, would let it go into neutral & then i could take off, it didn't stall, but, it wouldn't move either

well ive tried that and it still dies in reverse im at a stand still i have no idea whats goin on i even switched out the computer in it
