My dad has the older 4.7L, 2wd, and gets 17mpg all around, no matter how he drives or what he hauls/tows. Also. the 87 tune can actually decrease the hp on some models FYI, to help prevent pinging noise and detonation, this is to help preserve the engine life. With that being said, it may still run a faster 0-60 or 1/4 mile due to crisper shifts and things like that...
My truck is actually a 4x4 with 305/45/22 tires, which doesn't help my mpg at all. From my experience I get the best mpg using the performance tune, then 87 and stock are about even, and the mileage tune actually gives me slightly worse than that, don't know about the towing tune. As I said before, the programmer probably does give me a performance gain, but I honestly can not feel it at all.

As far as having something else wrong with my truck , I don't really know. Everybody I have talked to has said I should get better mpg, but I don't so......

hmmm... well yeah 4x4 vs 2wd is worth a few mpg loss, and the wide and heavy wheels/tires are probably worth 1 or 2 mpg loss. If you're supposed to get 19 hwy and getting 13 I guess that's not far off... I put heavier tires on my truck and seems like around town I get the same mpg but hwy has decreased slightly, maybe 1 mpg. I almost always avg 17-18mpg, before the tires it was more like 18.

I have an '06 and the SUPERCHIPS programmer. Worth the money to me for sure. I can't say that I noticed a whole lot of difference at WOT, but just driving around normally, it really woke it up. Plus since I put 33's on, I was able to correct the speedo. I used to have to keep the pedal at what felt like near the floor just cruising at 55, but now I barely have to push it. Also get about 1-2 MPG better milage so that offsets the higher cost of primum fuel. I will use my programmer again when I switch to 4:56 gears which should really make a difference!
