Default Ticking, clogged CAT, cylinder misfire...all connected?

It sure seems like I'm having a fair share of problems with my truck, but I'm kind of starting to think they're all connected.

I've noticed my exhaust sounding a little less than stellar. I inspected and found a crack in the weld on the inlet side of the muffler and had that repaired, thinking that would improve the exhaust sound. It did, but it still sounds like it isn't flowing cleanly.

My truck threw a code right around the time I noticed the poor sound, so I naturally thought they were directly related. Turns out it's a misfire on cylinder #8. I hesitated before changing plugs, because a friend of mine told me that changing the plugs almost never resolves a misfire. What is the resolution to the problem?

And now I'm noticing a rapid ticking sound from the back side of the engine.

I've connected the dots and I'm sort of thinking a plenum change is in order. I do know that bad plenums can lead to a clogged cat.

I know these repairs have all got to happen, but I would like to know if you guys would agree. There's no doubt that y'all know way more than me about these trucks.

Have you checked for broken manifold bolts? That may be the cause of the ticking sound.
