Both. There are rubber bumpers you apply during installation to protect the back glass when the panels are resting against it. The support arms are there to hold it in place when it is in the open position. I have not driven with it in this position so I can not give an opinion on that but in my driveway, it seems like it will work just fine. I very rarely need mine open (most of what I haul fits inside the bed) so it was not a major concern for me.

I'm picking mine new 2500 4X4 Mega tomorrow with a Steelership tonneau and bushwacker flares...I'll post some pics after I pick it up and let you know about how water tight it is.

i agree. my avalanche is an 2002 2500 series and the bed panels are just starting to leak a little bit now. i still have mine and until chevy starts making a big block 8.1L again, i'm keeping it. i really liked those ram boxes but they were not available on the power wagon. i am glad i didn't go with that xtang cover. that bakflip fit so well i couldn't imagine there being anything out there thats better.

I have driven with mine up on the interstate 80 mph.. I didn't have any issues, just used both prop rods with it resting against the back window. Didn't notice any flew, rattle or banging.
