Default Thinking outside the box, will this work?

I recently bought a HBS leveling kit for my 06 1500. Like everybody else who has tried this, my lower bolt wouldn't budge. We talked about just compressing the springs in place and unbolting the strut from the top but didn't think we'd have clearance for the spacer with the studs. Here's my thought, what if I cut the studs from the spacer, drilled and tapped them. Then put the spacer onto the top of the strut and use a grade bolt, down through from the top, with a back up nut for good measure. I wouldn't have to compress the springs till they bind, just enough to clear. Has anybody tried it? Do you think it will work? I'd like to get some advice before I cut up a set of spacers. Thanks, Tony
