Default Proper Mountain Off road Mods?

Hi all. I live in the mountains and in the next few months I am going to be doing some mods to my 08 5.7l trx4 1500. My knowledge is mechanical and not in body work so I am looking for some pointers on what to do as far as mainly lift kits, and also grill guards. The snow fills ditches and levels them out around here and if I'm off roading its easy to get stuck. But what fun is it to not get out in the snow? Also in the summer there is plenty of rock to go crawling around on. My plan as of right now is to put a 6" suspension lift with a 2" body lift. I was also thinking about a westin sport grill guard with the built in winch tray and a 9000lb winch. Then some 35" m/s treads. This is the most I'm ever goin to spend on the truck at one time other then the initial purchase so I'd like to do it right. Anyone have advice?

Wish I could point you in the right direction, but, I haven't done any mods to my suspensoin yet. Soulds like you are heading in the right direction though with the plans.

Good Luck with the work.

why do the body lift? you dont need that to run 35's with a 6" lift.

i would lift the truck based on the suspension you pick out. poke around on some rock crawler sites and see what they do. from what i have seen it 99% jeep for rock crawler weekend warriors. my two cents...mod suspension for crawling and new rims for some very wide tires 14.5' or so. Pitbull rocker tires.

If you go with that wide of a tire you won't go anywhere in the snow, 12.5 is still wide of a snow tire too

I agree, that tire may be a bit too much for the snow. A taller, more narrow tire, will do better.

I like your idea of the winch and winch bumper. What if you have to winch from behind? Consider having a winch that has a receiver tube on it that can be used in the back.

I'd get some rock sliders for the sides, put some flares on it, don't go cheap on the kit or the shocks and make sure you get a good load rated tire so you don't blow out or tear up your sidewalls.

A good spare tire carrier in the back, along with a replacement wheel and tire, a Hi-Lift jack, tools, gloves, recovery straps, etc...are all good things to have along.

And just in case you get into a situation where you can't get out, have some extra high protein/high carb food, blankets, a candle or two, a charger for your cellular etc...in the truck to tide you over until help arrives.

Thanks for all the advise, as far as rations go, being a traffic controller/emergency response, i have all that in my truck majority of times anyways. But good call, about 2kms west of my house is a no cell range and i have yet to reach the other side of it.

Unfortunately I am located by alot of provincial parks and a national park and have found out it is a hefty fine to off road in them, so the rock crawling isn't going to be as frequent as i had intended, but definite mudding and snow.

As far as the body kit, not too sure why get it. Was hoping it would help the tire from rubbing the wheel well?
