Default MPG Performance Mods

Hey guys, first post here. Plan on doing my first mods to my truck, I drive a 1996 Dodge Ram ext cab 5.2. My first mods are going to be a cold air intake, new set of plugs and wires ( because the ones on now are junk). Ok so i gues my questions are: What CAI would you recommend? An K&N or Spectre? Now on to the plugs Ive heard that the Autolite 3923 are good because they are one heat range cooler? Would i benfit from getting better plugs( NGK, etc in the same heat range?) And Finally the Wires. Im thinking MSD 8.5 superconducters, what would you suggest? Im doing all of this for power/MPG plus ive been itching to modify the truck.
Thanks guys, appreciate your time

Joe

From what I've read on this site your best bet is going with a good copper core plug, nothing fancy. It seems everyone is in agreement that the exotic plugs dont work too well with our Dodge engines...I just replaced mine and I used the autolites.

I'd go with a plain Jane plug.

The Spectre is a decent intake. Just make sure they don't slip you a cheapy filter that will come apart and get sucked into your engine.

The MDS wires are good. You might find the 8.0mm Taylor wires will work just as good for a better price. Summit sells them as do a lot of parts stores.

Lastly, since you will have more air coming in, if you don't already have one, consider a freer flowing muffler.

i have the spectre intake and bought a k@n filter works nice .heard alot about staying with the oem champion plugs . plus there cheaper . you can get a oem tune up kit for 100 bucks with all oem mopar parts. im about to tackle that beast soon the cap looks like a bitch to get to and ive been putting it off. as far as mpg good luck with that , i have a three inch magnaflow cat back too and i get 12mpg city highway it doesnt matter. clean your throttle body with seafoam if you decide to due the cai. good luck
