I take my 09 Ram into the dealer on Wednesday this week to have the chrome clad wheels and chrome side steps replaced. I noticed pitting on the steps recently and the chrome finish on the wheels was starting to disappear on all my wheels down in the creases by the “spokes.” In these areas a red primer color was appearing and I figured it would only get worse. The truck has 31,000 miles and is very well cared for. The dealer had no hesitation to order the replacement parts. They had seen problems with some bumpers but not wheels and steps.
Glad to hear your dealer's taking care of you, it sounds like some people have had problems.
So far I don't have any rust on either, but the last time my truck was in my service adviser made it a point to ask me how the bumpers were holding up. I thought it a little odd since I'd never said anything about them, but assume they're getting used to the complaints.
I had rims replaced at 2 years old only 17000 kms and the running boards or nerfs few weeks later when one fell off due to improper original installation by purchasing dealer but I had them replaced by a different one. I figured they would just rehang them cuz they were not rusty or anything but they replaced both and all the hardware.
