Default My rack, bike config

Well I thought I'd throw a picture up of my rack in one of its configurations, at least the one it is in right now. I have two bike racks on it and a basket for carrying extra gear and wet/muddy gear for camping, kayaking, etc. I swap the bike racks out with kayak carriers as needed, so its always in a state of flux. The rack is a Thule Xsporter and it can go up and down, there are 5 height settings, it is down 4 right now, can't go all the way because of the wheel wells and that's only because the racks are close together so that my basket can fit. I can raise it when I put my dogs back there, two very big ones, and depending on how high up I can obviously put all manner of large objects under it, or just pull the rack without even a wrench (they lock on however). Also when camping, I can use it to attack an rv awning to.

It also has a couple attachments I can use so I can carry large lumber with it. The best bet for that is to ditch the basket and bike racks and have it at either end of the bed, raised above the cab.

Anyway, it is an awesome rack system, maybe someone else will find the pictures useful.

Where did you get it, and how much did it cost? Is the rack an accessory, or what? Cool!

"Nice Rack" That was the 1st thing that came to mind for my response. That thing looks stout as hell. Tough looking & functionality. What more could you ask for.

Just need to add some Off Road led light bars!

Thanks all I've been very happy with it, extremely handy rack and even with all that stuff attached, light enough that I can put it on and take it off by myself without disassembly.

The base rack is a Thule Xsporter, give or take $500. I think I got mine for $485, free shipping. The center basket is a Kathmandu brand or something, I forget what, I got a good deal on it from Sierra Trading post with a 40% off coupon, otherwise center baskets like that go for anywhere from $100 to 500 depending. The bike racks I sourced off of a site like chainlove.com, they were $60ea + shipping. The rack came with little brace things not pictured, and I also have Thule kayak carrier J frames which are also not pictured, I forget what those cost.

You could do it for less, like just do the Thule rack and get a Surco aluminum basket, ideally a longer basket would be better but I made do with what I have. I may get a bigger one at some point, move the one I have to over the cab or get an extension for it.

Thanks, I was like off road led light bars? what... then I looked it up, thanks for that those are cool, I will be adding something like that.

Actually a project I keep meaning to get to is running power to a junction block in the back so I can install a socket or three in and around the bed for switched power to whatever I feel like putting back there. Backup lights, side lights come to mind, etc.
