Default AMP Bed X-tender

Since our truck is the family vehicle and will be used to haul the new baby and all the related paraphernalia around I decided a bed extender was a must have. With the tonaue cover on it keeps all the items (stroller, suitcases, grocery bags etc) from rolling to the front of the cab. I though about just putting in a cargo bar, but this gives me the option of securing larger items should I need to, plus it can be removed in approx 30 seconds.

I called the local dealership about buying the OEM and they quoted me $280 plus shipping. My local truck shop had this same model for $260, but I got lucky on eBay and found a new in opened box one for $170 shipped to my door. Can't beat that .

I planned on doing a full write up on the install with photos, but got frustrated after the first few steps and forgot to take photos. It's not a difficult install, but would have been 100% easier with a second person helping to align the bars and securing them. If you plan on doing it remove the tailgate to drill and install the 2 pivot brackets, just keeps you from having to stretch etc.

I do have photos of the finished product and here they are!

You do have to fold the cover back and remove the rear-most brace to flip it in or out, but that's not too bad.

Very nice, I've been debating on one of these cuz I'm tired of things rolling around in the bed as well. This might give me some motivation to actually pick it up now.

Cool man. I have the spray on bed liner in my truck and nothing ever rolls around (unless it is a round object). I am surprised your having problems since it looks like you have one in as well.

The big items weren't a problem but the small items, like grocery bags, wheeled suitcases etc were moving around quite a bit. Could have something to do with my driving style

if i had a usable bed, i would also have bought a bed extender, great for quads, etc.

a suggestion about your covers snaps, after a few months, you will want to put a tiny dab of something in the female part of the snap, i used a bit of Vaseline when they started unsnapping harder, they were beginning to rust or corrode. To much & you will be wiping off little streaks from the paint every week or so

Thanks for the tip on the snaps. The cover was on when I bought the truck. It's a Berlin. I'm not sure if it will stay for very long. I'm contemplating a fiberglass cover or one of the folding models.

I just installed my last night and have a few recommendations, tips to help the next install out there. Put the unit together but don't tighten it up until the brackets are mounted. Eyeball the unit so that the top bar is parrell to the tailgate. The install template was low and mine looks like it tips into the truck a little. I'll be fixing it tonight. There where three dimpled holes noticeable under the spray on bed liner. Must be for the Mopar bed extender. I was going to mount the brackets using those factory dimples however I figured guys at AMP Research knew better. Now just put the brackets on the unit and eyeball the top pipe. Then drill the bottom hole of the three and your install will look much better than my first attempt. I sat in the bed when drilling and was pretty comfy but you certainly could remove the tailgate and save your back.
