Hey everybody, so with this mod, do you still use the drop in filter that the truck comes with?? You are just eliminating the part that is connected to the throttle body correct??? any help would be appreciated, thinking about doing this mod.

So basically you are just improving the airflow between the throttle body and the air filter??

You're getting rid of the huge sound deadening box and yes, smoothing the air flow between filter and the throttle body (bye-bye according pipe). i didn't do the K&N replacement filter as I want to go the open air filter in the enclosed box and piping in the near future. Otherwise I would've definitely done the K&N drop in.

Just picked up the supplies for this about an hour ago, waiting on the temp to drop outside and I am going to start on installing it. I will report my opinion on it in a few weeks.

Im thinking about doing this sometime this week.
To the guys who have just been using a factory or equal filter. Have you noticed good changes? I want to switch to a KN drop in but need the money

I will be using the factory style filter, might get a UNI or some other brand drop in, but I will not use K&N ever again. I have been down that road.

basically imo, in a stock engine a new drop in with this JR intake will flow all the CFM of air our 4.7's could ever use.

i too am intrigued as too whether the rubber collapses under pressure or flexs alot? any reason why you elected to keep the factory collector box with the K&N filter? versus a conical style filter? what is the location you purchased the products from? lowes, home depot, some other location haha?

Just found it easy to use the stock box and K&N.. I have been thinking about fabing an open box for a conical style but havent started anything yet.

as for the rubber collapsing.. I havent noticed any issues with it. Its been 100+ for like 30+ days here in Dallas and I have checked it a few times because I was worried about the heat, but no problems.
