Default 32 Gallon Tank

Hi All,

Got a question for those of you with a 32 gallon tank....It does not seem to hold the claimed volume. I filled up the for the first time and only got 24 gallons in it and the DTE read 45 miles to Empty.....I am sure that there is a saftey factor built into that number but the gauge was at about 1/8th of a tank. Also, when the pump clicks off it is indeed full. I tapped it a few more times as I usually do and it all came back out the filler neck. Lots of vapor line to bleed off i guess.
Any help?

That doesn't sound right. I have the 32 and have put over 30 in it when it was really low. I knew that was right cause it cost me over $100 to do it LOL. Are you positive they did not put the smaller tank in yours by mistake? The only other option is your EVIC may not be calculating the DTE properly. You can also take it to the dealer and they should be able to tell just by looking at the tank.

I was thinking the same thing....... How many miles to Empty do you typicaly see after you fill up on the display. I think i am going to go to the dealer and climb under a few trucks to see the diffrences in the tanks and compare them to mine.

I never get that low on gas. I only burn about 1/4 to a 1/2 tank each week driving to/from work so I just make sure to tip the tank off every weekend. Also, the 32-gallon tanks have a known problem of making a thud sound from the gas sloshing around if you let it get below a 1/2 tank.

I had a 35 gallon tank before I changed out to a 60. The tank manufacture told me the volume of all tanks are what is advertised plus 10 percent volume for vapor space.

With my 35, when I hit full, or the fill nozzle clicked off, I was able to put in another 3 to 4 gallons to top it off before a long run. On my 60, the ratio is the same. When it clicked off, I added roughly 6 gallons. Now I have diesel, but a fuel tank is a fuel tank.

As for the overhead display, I learned to have no faith in it. With my 60 gallon tank, on the last run, it said I had 548 miles to empty when I filled, and I drove from Nashville to after Amarillo. I had 1,015 miles on the trip-o-meter, and the tank was showing 'E'. Sort of well past 548 miles indicated by the overhead.

I have the 32 and it will run down to Low for a while. I have only done it once because you risk burning up the fuel pump if you let it run down that much.

In my experience with these Gage's they never read correct. In my '98 it would take forever to drop to the half way mark and then you could almost see it drop to empty. It had the 26gal tank. On my '06 it's the opposite drops real fast to the half way point and takes forever to get to empty. It has the 34gal tank. I try to never let it get below 1/4 tank. When it gets to 1/4 I fill it up and it takes 22gals. A 1/4 tank should be 8.5 gals which makes 30.5gals so the gage is off 3.5gals somewhere.

My first fill up I had the same experience. Near empty it only filled 25gal. After that I was putting in 30+ gal. Strange.

I kind of noticed something like that but wasn't really paying attention to it. I will have to pay more attention when I go to fill her up.
