Default Front End steering problems

I'm new to this site and looking for help. I bought a 2004 Ram Hemi single cabwith 69,000 miles 2 years ago. Had streeing pump problems right away. Mechinic replaced pump and rack and pinion to fix problem. Now 30,000 miles later he's telling me the reason I keep having problems with alignment is because the inner and outer idleer arms are worn out and the only way to replace the inner arms is to replace the rack and pinion assembly again. He tells me this is a cronic problem with these trucks. I ask him if he checked the outer arms when the pinion was replaced before and he said he did. What's going on here? This doesn;t sound right to me, is it? I have a 2001 Suburban with 174,000 milage on it and I've never replaced the idler arms. No problem keeping my tires aligned either.

Welcome to the site; I don't have an answer, but I'd go for a second opinion from a different mechanic. Any way, it's time to .................... this back to the top! Drop by the Newbie Checkin and introduce yourself. Hope to see you around!
