Default 1992 12 Valve A/C Questions!

Hey guys. I just bought a 1992 Cummins D250 Extended Cab with 152000 miles. Awesome looking truck for the year. The A/C is barely blowing and when it does it doesn't blow cold. So I was wondering what needs to be done to fix it? About how much?

It could be something as minor as needing to recharge your A/C, as for the blowing there could be a an old and worn fan motor, or maybe a bad connection. If you do decide to try to recharge your A/C system, check for leaks with shaving cream or soapy water on the piping. The leak may be causing the A/C to lose all the refrigerant therefore no A/C. Hope that helps!

Most likely low on charge, will have to take her in to a shop and have them hook the truck up to an a/c machine, make sure if they do recharge the system that they put uv light dye into the system so if there is a leak that it can be traced.

Ya you can do that too. Not sure if it will be pricey but I know you can get recharge kits for $40 , comes with a pressure gauge and see if it holds pressure.

I dont rec. people use over the counter a/c recharging equipment, its basically propane which is explosive....most of the kits don't include dye... so you would have to check everything with a soap solution....Redtek does work good, however if you have to take it in to a dealer they are going to charge you big time because you can't recover redtek with a r134 based machine, it makes an azotrope out of the 2 refrigerants and it is very expensive to dispose of. But yes there are cheaper alternatives.
