Default Lifter Rap/Knock

All,

I have recently developed a lifter knock. When I asked a "technician" about it, he says that its normal for a hemi with 95K on it. My inner mechanic finds this hard to believe, though this is my 4th Dodge its my first hemi. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jay

Most vehicles have some slight lifter tap(especially when cold) but excessive noise is not normal. I'd say if you can hear it in the cab it's not normal.

No such thing, he's full of crap, lol! Yes there is the Hemi tick which often happens around oil change time but even that is wrong and something that they ignore and claim is normal, ha! Make them fix it, if it's a steady tapping, it's a bad lifter.

Normally a lifter should stop tapping once the engine is warm/hot. It is most likely like he says ^^ a bad lifter if it never goes away.

BTW...I've seen push rods wear completely through the rocker arm because of not attending to a bad lifter (tapping) or adjustment. But in this case...they are not adjustable so check both lifter and rocker arm for wear.
