Default Big move complete

My wife and I are bussily (sp?) unpacking after our big move. We have just relocated from Gainesville FL to Cushing OK. Just got our new internet up and running.

I drove the moving truck and my wife followed along behind with the Ram filled with animals. Relatively few casualties of the move. I lost an aquarium and had to repair a table when we arrived but all the other furniture that fit was fine.

I had a couple issues with the Ram on the long trip. One of my kayak carrier broke for no reason, just snapped off. The kayaks were in the moving truck so it wasent even under load. I lost my K&N filter, it just fell off my intake unexpectedly. The biggest problem though was a reaccuring issue that I haven't ever been able to get the chrysler techs to reproduce. When driving at high speed, when you slow down, the Ram will hesitate to reaccelerate. Further more it will sputter like it is trying to stall and kit out a cloud of black or white smoke about 70% of the times this happens. It's driving me batty because my wife and I seem to be the only people that belive it happens. There is a new dealer here in OK to take it too. Perhaps they will have more luck reproducing the problem.

Glad to hear that you made it with everything 'relatively' intact.

Does the CEL light up when the truck does it's hesitation/sputter/smoking routine? If not, it 'might' have a pending code that could be used to diagnose the issue, but you'd have to read the code soon, as some codes automatically clear in a short while, if the problem disappears.

could it be a problem with the MDS disengaging? I've heard similar stories where the MDS was to blame

That's quite the move, glad to hear you made it for the most part intact. I agree with Brad, I'd have your truck checked for codes which might help diagnose the problem but good luck and good to see ya back!

No MIL light ... and I've had them check for codes before ... always nothin. Maybe there is this time, but I've had it in with this complaint three times at two different dealers and they never find anything wrong. Maybe the third dealer will be the charm.

My truck has the 4.7l engine ... so no MDS to worry about.

P.S. I'm not entirely sure how I managed to post this in "Off Topic". I swear I was in the general Ram forum when I typed the original message.

Welcome back!

I wonder if that hesitation and smoke isn't caused by a leaking injector. Do you have smoke at cold startup?

Pretty sure it's not a leaky injector for a couple reason. No trouble or smoke at startup. Smoke is sometimes black and not white. Only happens when you were A) going fast, B) slow down to a stop or near stop, and C) speed back up. Likely times are right after fueling up at a rest stop on a road trip when you try to accelerate on the on ramp or accelerating away from a stop light right after getting off the freeway. I almost feel like I'm building up carbon when I drive at high speed and it break up on acceleration after I stop and chokes the engine till it burns off. It only lasts a few second, and only happens every 300 - 400 miles or more ... but it can be scary why your coming down a short ramp to merge into traffic and the engine about conks out and start spitting out smoke.

In the last three years I've moved 4 times. Once in town, once 360 miles, and twice over 1200 miles. On the 360 mile move I tried to move with just the Ram and a trailer ... it took me 5 trips (over 3000 miles all together). It was one of my stupider decisions. We are int he process of the buying the house we just moved into and it should be the last move for at least 4 years.
