Default 95 octane

Hi all,

It's been 1 week since I'm the proud owner of a 2005 Dodge Ram 5.7 HEMI 4x4. (Finally, after 4 month of searching ) I got it from a military that is stationed at an army base in Germany. It is 100% US specs.

As far as I know the engines are optimized for 87 octane gasoline. However 87 octane is something most people here in Europe have never heard of (not talking about military personal that can refuel on base). The gasoline you can get here is either 95 or 98 octane.

I read that feeding my engine 95 octane wouldn't give me any advantage over 87 octane and that on the contrary it would cost some power instead of adding some.

Would a programmer do the job and get the engine to take advantage of the extra octane? If yes, which programmer would be best for that and would I be able to find setup files to download or a tech sheet that tells me what parameters to change?

Yeah the only way you can take advantage of that octane fuel is to buy a Diablo and add some timing. You might have to shoot an email to some tuners asking them exactly how much but I'd start with 2-3 degrees and go from there.

You know...Mike at Diablo might be able to help you too. You should post this on the DSP forum.

I think the hemi is actually supposed to run on 89 octane. Either way, what they are saying is correct, you would need a tuner to take advantage of the high octane. A superchips would get you close (91 or 93 tune), but to take full advantage of it you would need to get the diablo tuner and what I would do is start with the 91 or 93 tune, then add a couple degrees of timing, drive it for a day or two, then add a couple more degrees, etc....until you start to hear pinging/detonation, then retard the timing back about 2 or 3 degrees and you should be safe with that.

I run 94 octane exclusively on my 10' Hemi,
optimized and tuned for performance with my Diablosport Trinity.
