What the hell is the point of that? Why not just run a dual in/dual out muffler and not even bother with that y pipe?

That's not a very nice response...you nearly hurt my feelings!

I should have done a dual in/dual muffler..but then whats the point of that? Why not two mufflers to make a true dual?

The point is, I made the best exhaust I could with the parts that I had. If I could do it all over, I'd probably do something things differently.

^^ nothing wrong with ramrt's setup, it'd probably perform better(slightly) than true duals.

Two into One exhaust scavenging
the alternating pulse from one side can actually create a vacuum to help pull flow from the other.

Even ARH Headers come with a new Y, looks very much like the Magnaflow Y

My Maggy Y ($27) welded in with SS Mandrel Bent pipe ...

stock squash bent and compressed Y pipe :

it's all the little pieces that add up to the bigger results in the end, its just a supporting mod that wont measure much on its own, just like a Catch Can or a Jet 180º T-Stat.
-add up enough supporting mods that only pick up a tenth or two on their own and before you know it you've dropped a full second off a quarter mile.

I started last Summer with mid 15's, now I'm at 13.8 and still dropping.

I cant quite afford ARH LT's, ($1600) + Ceramic Coating ($300) but will have JBA shorty headers
to replace my ugly cast exhaust manifolds soon...for $500, the $27 Y- pipe seemed like a no brainer.

on the intake side I've got an Airaid, home made Ram Air feeder tube, Fastman 85mm Throttle Body
and a Tuner capable of Data-Logging and custom CMR tuning to make sure I'm optimizing everything to run together.

BlackRamHemi, I'm very curious to see how your shorty headers turn out. Dyno comparisons to your stock manifolds would be much appreciated. I really wanna get some shortys on my truck, but I don't know of anyone who has tried them yet.

Nothing against, you, more your exhaust guy, he basically did the same exhaust setup, just placed the y pipe in a different location and charged you for some extra piping, just seems like a very odd way of setting up an exhaust

Before we did my exhaust, he gave me a quote of $150. After that, I decided I wanted to move the y pipe to have more dual piping. He still only charged me $150. He was fair with me, I have a good exhaust, and I'm happy

I went ahead and got the muffler installed today without changing the Y-Pipe. Ill see how I like it, and maybe down the road swap the Y-Pipe too.

I would love to run my truck on a Dyno now that I have the muffler swapped, then run it again after the Y-Pipe is replaced and see if there is any recordable difference. Too bad I have no access to a dyno!
