Default Gas Tank and DTE

Ok, I have filled my gas tank 2 times since I've owened it. The manual and all the information I've read says it has a 34 gal tank. I'm the type of driver that, during the summer months, drives till the gas light comes on which according to my DTE gauge is around 33 miles till empty. I'm averaging about 15 mpg which would tell me there should be about 2 gallons left in the tank when my "Low Fuel" starts to flash. I usually drive to work which is where I've been filling up my tank so by the time I get there I have already driven another 15-20 miles. Thus giving me about 1 gallon left. However when I fill'er up I can only SQUEEZE 25-26 gallons in her. Where is the other 8 - 9 gallons at? You can't tell me that it's in the fuel line or the down tube. So is it me, do I have an issue with my gas tank? Maybe I found Jimmy Hoffa! LOL Just curious if anyone else has had this issue. That extra 8-9 gallons can prolong my fill up for another week if I'm careful.

Sounds to me like your tank might actually be smaller than 34 gallons. I have a 26 gallon tank and when i run it down i can only squeeze about 21 to 23 gallons depending on how low it is. Other than that i not sure whats going on lol.

Same here, mine is the 26 gallon. Most I have ever put in it was around 24 gallons.

I would check to see that you don't have a huge dent in the tank... this could cause you to odd re-fueling amounts. Just a thought though, as I can't remember if this is a plastic tank or not.

When you get the light, you may want to try putting a 5 gal can of gas in the back and driving until you run out of gas. That would tell you for sure.

LOL, that's exactly what I was planning on doing this trip around.

** EDIT ** Ok, so I . . . ummm . . . re-read the manual under fluid capacity and . . . ummm. . . I misread the amount. The long beds have the 35 gal tank where as mine has the 26. Boy do I feel silly but at least I know there is nothing wrong with the gas tank, just my eyes. Thanks for the help everyone!
