and the check engine light doesn't always mean you haven't tripped a code. You can code a vehicle with maybe a short in the wire harness or even a misfiring spark plug, yet your check engine light will not come on. it all depends on what code you trip.

Ok, I learn something new every day.

I just got back from having my codes read and there are none. No trouble codes set at all.

The guy at the parts store seemed to think as I originally did; there would be no codes set if the check engine light had never come on but regardless I still have no clue what is causing my problem.

Could the EGR valve be bad without setting any trouble codes?

It doesn't seem like a fuel problem. The problem only occurs when the vehicle is in gear and you come to a stop. I can put the truck in neutral while rolling down the road and it doesn't miss a beat. It is only when the ground speed gets very close to 0. Are there any sensors that coordinate idle speed with ground speed? Just thinking out loud...

Also, where can I get a set of factory service manuals for this truck?

Thanks.

Looks like my problem has finally resulted in a trouble code being set. I am now getting a P0406 code.

I consulted with my parts store and they said there are several components associated with the EGR system that might result on this code being set? Is this correct and if so how do I go about identifying the specific component that is bad?

I hate to just start buying and replacing parts until I get the correct one.

Can anyone provide any insight in this?

Thanks.

..i think part of the proble is that dodge has the idle set too low (possibly an emissions thing) and i think when you slow down, sometives too much vacuum is pulled causing it to sputter, I release the gas pedal and the sputtering stops. I now have a Diablo Predator that allows me to raise my idle (to 750 rpms from 550)...now i get no stalling..
