Default 2008 grand caravan oil comsumption

My wife's 08 GC uses roughly 3 quarts of oil every 300 miles. It has around 35,000 miles on it. The dealership claims that 1 qt/1000 miles is an acceptable amount of oil to burn. I disagree. My 09 HEMI uses less than 1/2 a qt. every 3000 miles.

Any thoughts?

I also disagree. No engine is designed to burn that much oil.

Tell the dealership you call BS on that one!

My brother has (had) the same issue with his GC also . I'll check with him when he gets back from his vacation to see what he did to correct it .

Default Update

So, after doing an "oil consumption test" the dealership has decided that it is in fact using far too much oil. They have decided that their heavy engine mechanic needs to tear it apart. It goes in later this month. I think they should start with a new PCV but it's not costing me anything and it's not my truck so they can do what they want. Hope it doesn't take more than 5 days, I don't want to pay for additional days of a rental car.

Wow that's alot of oil. My s10 with 220,000miles only burned .5 qt every 5,000 miles. My 2010 Ram 4.7L doesn't even use .5qt every 10,000miles.

At least it's not leaking all over my driveway. This is our 4th minivan and has been the biggest P.O.S. that I have ever had. If it wasn't for the lifetime power train warranty and the max care warranty I shelled out $2700 for, I would have traded this thing in a long time ago. Brake rotors have been replaced at least 5 times (getting replaced again when it goes in for engine), tires at 27,000 miles, numerous squeaks and rattles, clunky 6 speed transmission, numerous recalls and on and on..... I'm glad I don't drive it everyday, I would go nuts.

I swore I would never buy a 1st model year vehicle, I bought 2. So far the RAM has been good.

Minivans are terrible in general anyway, they start with a bad platform, problems are inevitable. I always suggest to people looking at minivans to get a small suv, much more heavy duty and will last longer, be more reliable, etc...

Your post reminds me of something, I work in a town called Taft (I swear it stands for Train After F***ing Train) and anyway chrysler apparently has some semis that carry cars down here, and they unload them and drive them somewhere (I guess local dealers), and I was sitting in a parking lot waiting to go to a meeting and they unloaded a semi full of caravans, and then a driver go it each one and I swear they all stepped on the gas and never let off, and I kid you not they all got the tires off the ground going over the railroad tracks...one after another...makes you wonder how your/my truck was treated for its first drive...!?

Default Another update....

My wife finally found time in her "busy" schedule to take her van in. They replaced the piston rings and rod bearings, they said the rings were warn. I don't understand how rings can be worn to the point of burning 3 quarts of oil between oil changes with only 36,000 miles on the odometer.

Hope that fixes it. Too early to tell.

If that's so it could have been starved of oil at some point in it's life.
