Default High Pitched Squealing

Recently I had a leaky hose leading to my water pump that I replaced and replaced the drive belt while I was at it. After I got everything back together my truck makes a high pitched squealing noise when it's in gear, but not in park. The noise gets louder as I accelerate and seems to stop at about 40 mph but then starts back up if I slow down. I've tried belt dressing and WD-40 on the pulleys. Anyone have any ideas?

Did you have to loosen any alternator or power steering bolts to get to that hose? Sounds like maybe one of the accessories on the fan belt may still be a little loose.

Yeah, I had to take the alternator off as well as the AC compressor, fan shroud, fan, one of the pulleys, and the mounting frame. It has a spring loaded tensioner so it shouldn't be loose and nothing appears loose unless I overlooked something. A family friend is an engineer, so she's gonna look at a couple things for me tonight as well. It's not overheating and the battery is holding a charge so I don't think it's anything serious, just something really annoying.

Sounds like a loose belt that slips when it's under load. Try putting a wrench to your tensioner and give it a nice tuge to make sure the belt is snug.

Turns out that the squealing is coming from the AC compressor, which makes sense since the AC doesn't work as well as it should. I'm gonna try putting refrigerant in it and if that doesn't work I guess I'm replacing the AC compressor. At least it's nothing that will seriously damage the truck, even if the AC gives out. Thanks for all the input guys.

putting 134a is not going to stop the squeal.it's either the pully bearings failing or the compressor shaft and valves failing adding refrigerant will just put further load on the failing part and make it fail sooner, if not then and there, right before your eyes.If the compressor is sound you can get away with installing a clutch kit(pulley/hub,electro magnet and clutch disc).if the compressor is internally failing you'll need a compressor orfice tube and dryer and flush for the system due to metal shaving contamination.lots of work, leave it to a pro unless you've done em before.p.s. throw away the belt dressing the stuff is worthless,it cloggs up all your pulley grooves and your belt will be chirping like a bird ,real anoying then you've got to clean every groove.I charge an hour labor at my shop for this service.
