Default Ecm ?

I have a flashed ECU in my truck, which from what I understand hinders the performance/power of the vehicle. Which was done because of pinging problems with the engine. I drive a 1996 5.2 4x4 and i found a supposed un flashed ECU from a guy on craig'slist which is out of 96 5.2 also. If it is unflashed and i purchase it from him, will installing it increase performance back to before the flash was performed? Is this a good idea, or do the negatives outway the benifits? Any help would be appreciated

many guys have done it using the mopar performance PCM's. if you go with it make sure it is unflashed. they did not labe it very well on the pcm's. I believe that they used stickers to do it and they could be taken off. to be honest you will have better better results with a tuner. like SCT or super chips even if they are a little more money.

Tuners are nice maybe you can find some on this site that will tune it for you. I know alot of people that tune and will do it for you relatively cheap.

I'd shy away from the used one and give yours to B&G Performance for a tune.

Un-flashed???? How the heck did he un-flash it? Even Dodge doesn't do that. You would have to have the original flash to reprogram it which I doubt he has. He probably took the sticker off and is just claiming it is un-flashed. I wouldn't trust it since you have NO way to make certain it is genuine. If you feel any power difference it will be a placebo effect, and if you feel no difference he can claim he never guaranteed there would be. Either way you are out the money. If your ECM is good, just keep it and get a tuner.

I realize this is an older thread but how does having your ecu flashed hinder your performance??? is this true?? i messed mine up trying to program it with a hypertech programmer, threw me an error code and it wouldnt start after, had to pull it to the dodge dealership in town to have them flash it....was this a bad idea? what else could i have done?
