Default Puzzled with old school tach

Ok im working on my 78 Impala with a 350 with a bone stock (for now) ignition system i know how to hook up the newer 4 wires but this one has got me puzzled

It's got :2 red wires
1 blue wire
1 yellow wire
1 black wire (ground)

Brad I have no idea it kinda looks like and old school sun tach

I did tho take the back off of it and found that 1 red is the illumination and the other is a GROUND ... so now I know that im left with black yellow and blue ...

... I've already smoked more then 2 packs of cigarettes trying to figure this out and i'm getting annoyed oh well ill keep updated and will post pics later when i'm done this headache of having REAL gauges instead of idiot lights

You should have the following (not sure on the colors though):
Ground (I'd guess black)
Power (I'd guess red)
Accessory (I'd guess yellow)
Signal (I'd guess blue)
Illumination(If it has a light) (I'd guess red)

I'm wondering if someone changed the wires. I am not aware of any tack ever having that wiring combination, and certainly not one with a red ground wire.

Did you take any pix of the inside of the tach that show the wires and where they connect to the circuit?

brad, am I correct in what I posted? ....ground, power, accessory, illumination, and signal....? That's what I remember the tach that I installed in my ford having...

This is what I am somewhat expecting -

+12v switched (ignition)
Ground
Illumination
signal (6 cyl)
signal (4/8 cyl)

I one thing I have discovered over the years; tach wiring had no standard...not that it really does now....but the wire colors on this one, and one of the reds being ground ...really has me wondering.

Some old fords used the positive side of the coil. When the Tach died so did the car. They caught on mid-70's. Make sure you don't have an early Tach that wants a positive signal.
