My intro thread here has most of the info but here's a recap:

Tranny blows front planetary somehow, destroys entire unit. I have it rebuilt. After installing rebuilt tranny, it won't shift out of 1st gear (reverse OK) I've tried:

Replacing speed sensor
Removing TV cable
Adjusting TV cable
Removing trans relay
removing 8-pin connector at trans
"Resetting" PCM (unplug batt, wait, plug back in) (someone suggested it somewhere)

None of these have given me any results, except for when I pull the trans relay or 8-pin connector, it does go to limp mode. [Not sure, will try again tonight, but I swear pulling the relay only gave me limp mode for one quick burst - when I stopped at a stop sign and accelerated again I swear it was back stuck in first]

What else can I do here? I don't exactly have access to a DRB, or a second "known good" PCM to try, nor do I have the cash to pony up for either right now as I just busted my wallet on this damned rebuild. Help plz?

Welp I'm not sure what I did differently last night but apparently something worked. It started shifting so I'm calling it good (enough for now I guess)

Haha, just kidding. I made it two blocks this morning (4 stops and starts) before it locked itself again! First, it would shift fine. Then, it took it a bit to start shifting, but it did. Then it would only hit 1st and 2nd, then when I turned around to start heading back home it locked back into 1st.

What do you think? I'm doubting it's PCM at this point, heading more towards a faulty governor pressure sensor/solenoid. Thoughts? Ideas? Anything else to test before I pull the transmission out again and toss it on the rebuilder's front doorstep?

Did you ever get the shifting problem worked out? My 2001 5.2L v8 (auto tranny) occasionally won't shift out of 1st gear just after starting it up... then other times, it's like it's stuck in 2nd, 3rd or OD, and I' have to manually shift to 1st, 2nd, then Drive when coming off of a stop sign or red light.

My gas mileage is consistently 11-12mpg in city, and if I "grandma drive" while on the highway, I might get 12-13 mpg on the highway.

I'll be changing out the Tranny Speed sensor today (about $20 and 10 minutes to do) - and will report back as to whether it helps...
