You get a few trans options with the flashpaq purchase, but to get full control and all the options yes you have to buy the "advanced trans upgrade" or whatever it is called....yes it is somewhere around $40.00.

No you do not have to pay for the trans tune. Chrysler controls 75% of your torque management by de throttling rpms at shift points and softening the shift pressure at high rpms. SC quick tunes from 87 to 93 and tow comes with a preset trans tune at around 8% TM and a first to second shift point at 6200 rpms with more responsive downshifting. You can adjust the rev limiter (6400 sweet spot), speed limiter to 140 and adjust your preset shift points while keeping the SC tune of your choice. You can also disable the awful MDS. The real beauty of the advanced tune is for lowering TM even further to say like 6% and learning the parameters to have full control over downshifting to your rpm specifications at will.

I don't believe that's correct, I think they have changed the way it works...on mine(bought this year) the only trans tuning options I have are shift points, and torque management setttings of stock or superchips.....you have to buy the advanced trans upgrade for like $40 or so to get full control.

How is the MPG gain between the 2?

azzo540 is correct, you can disable MDS. I have mine disabled but I can't tell any difference in fuel mileage being my truck is an ST. I can tell you one thing though, I'll never enable it ever again. Unlike before, the performance and sound is much smoother and consistent. And btw, if you get the 3865 it does come with preset SC trans/tunes (quick tunes) so you do not have to buy the advanced transmission tune. You can also adjust the shift points, rev limiter, speed limiter, and tire size without altering any other part of the SC tunes. Just to be clear, the advanced tune is specifically for controlling downshifts to your specified parameters at will and changing the torque management from SC tune to 6% (max recomended) if you are not satisfied with SC preset trans tunes. You can go to a more aggressive trans tune or tone the SC trans tune down. I like the SC trans tune, the difference is night and day. Keep in mind that if you purchase the advanced trans tune it will take some time to get use to as it is complicated for most who try. Just make sure when you buy the SC programmer that you download the latest software. You will first have to register your tuner, name and vin# of your truck on the SC site to update the tuner.

Two things, I found out that the SC TM settings are around 12% and not the 8% like I stated. Second, there is a new software update 3.20.11 that recently came out. I updated mine and was having problems trying to get it to install. After several attempts, the old software was still in properties. I had to set it back to the stock tune and erase the Easy Update program and files (in programs) completely for it to work. I'm telling you this in case you haven't done this update and decide to do it. I set my first to second shifts at 6100 rpms and second to third at 6000rpms. I set the rev limiter at 6400 rpms and the speedo to 140 mps all on a SC 93 tune (no advanced trans tune). I noticed a big difference between the 91 and 93 tune. I could sometimes brake the tires loose from a 15 mph roll even when it was stock but more easily with the 91 tune. But with the 93 tune, this thing breaks the tires loose from a 30 mph roll (on and off) all the way to second and some in second. I haven't and won't try it from a dig because of my new tires, I want them to last. Keep in mind that my truck is an RCSB 4X2 with 3.92 gears with 31" tires on 17's. It's 3 to 400 lbs lighter than a 4X4 RCSB and much lighter than the QC and CC. That's one of the reasons why I chose the RCSB 4X2 with 3.92 gears. That being said, I don't know what it will do for other size trucks but SC TM is a huge benifit over DS for stock (only) trucks. Good luck with your tune if you haven't done it yet and plan to.
