Default New to forum think i have a blown tranny

Hey guys i have a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.2
The other day on the highway the truck started to die out and lose speed. i floored the throttle and the truck kept losing speed so i pulled over and had it towed. I thought the truck overheated so i replaced the waterpump and radiator. Now after i replace the pump n rad i drive home. same thing happens. i start to drive and it takes off fine. After being on the highway the truck looses all power and makes a 'whining noise out of the tranny" I barely made it home and the truck would not go above 20 mph with the throttle floored and almost stalled up a small hill. I then put the transmission in nuetral and its still "whining from the tranny"

cliff notes
Truck looses power regardless of rpm
will drive for a few mins before the tranny starts making noise
truck will barely move after this.

heres a vid

could it be the tourqe covertor or the whole tranny.. im in a pickle!!

is the check eng light on? if so it has a code in the computer. if you can get an OBDII code scanner it might give you a clue as far if its a shift sensor or the torque converter. but one thing i do know of this gen of truck trannis dont hold up well sometimes. thats why i looked for a 5 speed. good luck.

does not smell burnt... took off tranny pan and the magnet was a little dirty but no signs of metal chunks/shavings. Thing that gets me is that in park and nuetral the engine will not rev up normaly... it seems like there is resitance somewhere thats holding the engine back from revving freely... I pulled the codes and got a p0132 which is high voltage at 02 sensor i think. This is my daily driver and need to get it running asap if there is anything you guys can help me with i would appreciate. and ps i can run and get vids or whatever you guys need to help me diagnose

it sound to me that if the o2 sensor is throwing the code that the computer is thinking that the truck is running to rich or lean or not pinking it up at all. is the cat clogged or wires to ether of the o2 sensors burnt? if the computer cant tell how the fuel air mix is compared to the throttle position it wont allow the right amount of gas from the injectors. on that truck there are 2 o2 sensors. one before the cat and one after. these both sen a differint reading to the computer so it can compinsate. hope that this helps.

I had the same problem sorta a few yrs back with my 96 5.2 and my cat was plugged. It would not rev over 3k to the floor. So Since it was also my daily driver i cut the exhaust after cat and took a heavy long bar inserted into the cat and broke out the insides. you then start the truck and it will be loud and rev it up to blow out the chunks and will have to repeat a few times to get it all out then weld the pipe back together. First thing you do is unscrew both oxy sensors to prevent damage before you break the insides of the cat out. Also the stuff isn't to good to breath so do it outside not in your garage and clean up the mess it's not good for anybody. One thing also is if it is the cat I recommend changing oil when fixed because exhaust would have had a hard time getting out and saturate your oil with gas and junk. Doing it this way is a cheap fix but it will throw a oxy code/check light after about 2 weeks until you can afford a new cat. I also had noise like you but it was the insides of the cat rattling and making noise. Hope this helps.

there is still exhaust coming out from the back of truck. if cat is clogged would it still flow a little bit. now that i remember i was banging the old muffler off with a hammer. maybe that dammaged the cat. NOW on the other hand i replaced the tranny fluid and filter with atf 4. i come to find out my dad put dexron 3 in the tranny before i owned the truck, now it seems that the tranny slips for a few seconds n then pops into gear...
