Default Timing chain fail

Hello Dodge people,
Im new on this forum, and I'm i have also just bought my first Dodge not so long ago. (Im also from Norway, so if my writing is bad, thats why

I have a question, its the question that brought me here in the first place, so i hope some of you have a good answer to me

I have a dodge ram srt-10, 2004. And i just had the 10.000miles service, and when the mechanics tryed to start the car to drive it out of the workshop, it would´t start. They told me that the tentioner for the time chain had failed, and that it was a manufacturer foult on the tentioner, so now they try to find out how much that is damaged.. So my question is, is it possible that the tentioner has failed? And what are the chances for that the engine is very damaged, or is the viper V10 engine a non interference engine? Have anyone heard of the problem before? Is it a known weakness on this model?

Sounds very fishy to me. The timing chain and gear set should still be very tight. This is the same design that'd run over 100,000 miles in the 273, 318, 340, and 360 going all the way back to the mid-60's. The tensioner was added in the '90's and is not known for failing. It does eventually wear out, but we are talking about a part that has run well over 200,000 miles without failure. 10,000 miles? I find this very suspicious. And since there's only 10k on the chain, there's very little stretch, and very little stress or wear on the tensioner. Truck should run fine. The tensioner is there to maintain optimal timing for the fuel injection and ignition. It takes up the slack in the chain as it wears. Yours would have only an inkling of slack. Early Magnums didn't even have these tensioners, so again, it's not engine critical, and lacks the heft to damage the chain. Have they pulled the timing chain cover? Until they showed me what they claim, I wouldn't believe it.
