Default Starting Issues

My 03 4.7 has been having a hard time starting while cold. I have to crank the engine for an extended period of time to get it started. Sometimes 4 to 5 times longer than a warm engine.

I installed a flowmaster muffler a few months ago, and cleaned the throttle body ( using brake cleaner), and new plugs.

Any ideas, Thanks.
Erik

Try to Clean the Fuel system. start with seafoam there many video's on youtube on how to on our trucks. If the problem continue do a Diagnostic check and see what it tells you.

the brake cleaner to clean your TB is not a good idea, it contains inorganic material that wont burn clean in the cylinders you would need alot to create problems but still a bad choice, use sea foam deep creep its petroleum based and burns completely no residue. also check the obvious like dirty fuel filter, when did you run a good fuel system cleaner, and what type of gas you purchase.

I removed the throttle body before cleaning with the brake cleaner. The problem started a couple months after this service.
I dumped in a can of seafoam to a 1/4 tank of 87. No change.

Symptoms still persist. No CEL.

get the fuel pressure checked, at startup and while running and under load, then have a vacuum test, all these tools can be purchased at harborfreight for a good price, and a haynes manual can give you specs you need to find the issues.

A fuel pressure test showed a drop in pressure after engine shut down.

I will be replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

Thanks!!!
