Sounds like it is running lean. Check your throttle body and clean that. Check your egr and if it's all gummed up, replace it.

You didn't mention what octane fuel you are using. 87 octane in hot conditions doesn't work too well with the 360.

Also, one last item is to have a shop check your timing. It may be off.

Good luck and Welcome To The Forum!

Hi and a warm Carolina welcome to the best RAM ForumZ on the web. How about heading over to the Newbie Checkin and posting a few photos of your truck? I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction to find the EGR.

I'm having the exact same issue with my 98 5.9. I reset the computer and it helped for awhile but the pinging is back again. If anyone knows how to get this issue resolved it would great.

EGR went away when OBD II came in, in 1996. Sounds like the dreaded intake belly pan gasket is leaking. From a consumer standpoint, this thing is the worst thing ever sold to the public, but it sure does drive up the service dept. work. You can check by crawling up on the engine with a flashlight and looking down into the throttle body. If the intake floor is dark and oily, you got a leaker. It'll only get worse. Ante up.
