Yeah after talking with someone else with an 08 I realized the 08 doesn't have the electric radiator fan like the 09+ do so you won't have the issue. FYI the issue has been fixed by superchips as of last week...

I'd like to get this tuner for my 2005 Ram. I'm assuming I've got the first Gen engine though. I also want to get an intake for it. Sounds like according to you, I won't get much of a gain from the tuner. If you know of anyone selling one I'd still consider getting one.

Nuts....yeah, the second gen 4.7 came out in the 2008 model year. Superchips claims a roughly 20 hp and 20 tq increase to the wheels on our first gen trucks. I don't doubt the increase claim....the issue to me is that it comes at 4400 rpm. How often do you see that kind of driving in your truck? I don't doubt that a Superchips equipped first gen 4.7 will outrun a stock 4.7 0-60, in the quarter mile, or whatever. But in normal everyday driving are you going to be able to feel the difference between the two? My experience was no. I did feel the difference in the firmer shifting and hanging on to gears a little longer but I also noticed that the tranny seemed to upshift and sometimes downshift a little too firm for me. So I sent my Superchips on to another user....a hemi owner who will likely get more out of it than I did. If you are really curious I still say go for it and experience it yourself. Just don't buy it new. Keep a religious watch on craigslist, ebay, and these forums and get a used one at a decent price. It took me about a month to pick one up for about $200 bucks on ebay. That way if you do decide to return it to stock you won't lose yourself a hundred bucks. Good luck!

Ok, thanks for the info starquest. I think I'll keep my eyes out for a used one and jump on it when I see it. i'd like to experience it, but based on your review, I'm going to avoid buying one new now. Based on your sig however, an intake still seems like a reasonable purchase for the 4.7L engine. I plan to get a Volant this week once I get paid.

Mine had the K&N in it when I bought it. I've checked into various intakes but decided on the Airaid modular intake tube primarily because of the cost and the fact that it will replace the restrictive accordian tube and sound resonator with a straight, smooth pipe. The MIT itself is about $110 shipped or you can get an Airaid jr. kit that comes with the tube and a high flow drop in filter for around $170 I think. Based on what I have read I don't expect any greatly noticeable gain....reviews seem to suggest maybe a little mid to top end torque, a little more engine noise in mid to top end, and probably the biggest difference...it just looks good, lol.

I have never had a Volant but they get good reviews. A buddy of mine puts one on every vehicle he buys. He swears the one on his Magnum made a huge noticeable difference but of course its a hemi. Good luck!!

I bought my MIT from a site called ourdealsrock.com or something like that for $90, or maybe $99 dollars...brand new. Also bought my airaid dry filter for $50 on ebay....can save some money this way.

The intake is good, but it's a supporting mod, it will be noticed more and more in combination with other mods.
