Default 5.9l magnum not the timing chain?

I have a 1995 ram 2500 with a 5.9 magnum, it died and gave the signals of busting the timing chain. Upon removing all the crap and opening the cover i found the timing chain intack and in great shape ( 145000 miles) which I am now dumb founded . Does anyone have any idea of what my problem is. Thank you for your help.

we need more info. what exactly happened when it died. Did the engine light come on? If so do you know what the code or codes are. Any more info you could give will help.

Why did you think it was the timing chain?
What were the symptoms?
What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

Default found out some of the problem i am still stumped

Well I have some of the problems, the spark was weak so i put on new wires, cap ,rotor, and coil. The egr vaccum thing is totally melted(must be egr is stuck open?) i am trying to get one locally I unplugged the connector and the truck runs some times then all of a sudden it just dies out let it sit and it may or may not start again but when it runs it runs like a champ as if nothing were ever wrong could the egr being unplugged cause it to do this? or is there some other problem. the spark is good, got fuel to rail not sure the pressure but it squirts out good, and compression on all cylinders look good

Stick a fuel presure gauge under the wiper and plug it into the fuel rail, and watch the gauge when the motor is being a bad actor. Any varience in the psi means a pump change. having fuel present at the fuel rail under pressure is not the same as having the correct, steady pressure at the fuel rail.
