I've never tried this, but it's always a possibility. Is it possible that the micro vees are running on the wrong side of a couple of your pullies? (misrouted belt) First off, your water pump could be running backwards, which it would probably protest loudly, resisting higher rpms, by not wanting to turn beyond a certain rpm, plus the slippery side of the belt might be trying to turn the pullies with the microgrooves (think grips) cut into them. I only think of this because I once got sold a water pump for a 350 Chev which bolted on,perfectly, but it was set up for reverse rotation, it protested like crazy above like 1800 rpms, I was extremely upset about that one, some rebuilder had put a marine impeller on that pump, if I remember correctly. Took forever to figure out...

I had the same issue with my 2005 1500, I changed the belt twice and after it kept coming back i changed out all the pully's and it stopped after that. When I inspected the pullys after I noticed a hair line crack in one of them. If your truck is close to 100,000 miles it doesn't hurt to change them all out.
