Default Front axle help

my 1997 dodge ram 4x4 1500, i recently changed my hub and when i pulled of the spindle nut, it was completely cross-threaded, im talking almost completely smooth. i was wondering can i buy just the last part of the axle that goes in the hub instead of the whole axle. Im trying to save money with this. I caked it with JB weld but i dont think it will hold. Thanks for help.

sounds like an ebay thing to me, I think the axle stub is the same left or right, last time I bought an axle joint it was around 20 dollars, it does NOT pay to buy the joint with the grease joint, put your own in with a #7 drill bit and a 1/4x28 (NF) tap, I prefer my grease fittings in an end cap. if the joint with the fitting won't rotate, put a setscrew in the hole when you aren't greasing it, for the frequency of greasing an axle joint, it doesn't hurt to remove the setscrew and stick a fitting in there and replacing it when lubed up. You should be able to pick up a 1 11/16 deep socket on ebay cheap, and thin the wall a little if necessary with a grinder. The nut should be available either on ebay or at a scrapyard, you'd be most fortunate to pick up just the stub at a scrapyard tho, they'd probably want to sell you the entire shaft assy, or worse yet, the entire axle unit... Good luck!!

you need a stub shaft wheel joint and nut all available at orielly's, the one here keeps them on the shelf all the time. Last time I bought all three it can to about 150 bucks if I remember right. Next time you have to take one apart make you remove the cotter pin and use a little heat and some PB Blast, kroil, liquid wrench or the like.
