Default 2002 Ram 1500, 27,000 miles, 4.7 L engine

Does anybody know if there is a Dodge software update for my model Ram.
I am getting an occasional surging of the engine , in gear or out of gear rpm go from 600 to 1100 and back down. It is an immediate increase and decrease but enough to make the truck jump forward if it is in drive. Can anybody help.
Thanks,
Capt Neal

It sounds like it's the old Throttle Position Sensor or Idle Air Control Valve issues. My truck has been having the same symptoms as yours. I picked up some replacements (along with hood struts since mine failed...wife said it looked like the truck was eating me) this evening and I'll be putting them in Friday evening. I'll let you know if that works.

Does your truck really only have 27000 miles on it or is that a typo?

I noticed he did not answer this, but I have a 2003 with 27k. The previous owner drove it 16k the first year, then 10k over the next 7. I am really enjoying this site, and reading some of the vast knowledge on here.

So far, it kept me from wasting my money on a plastic bed liner. I am getting real close putting the late model 4.7 intake on. My gas mileage really is pretty bad with the 275x60-20s and 391 gears.
