i had it happen to me on the highway this weekend. i actually thought that i may have released the hood and not the e brake before i left to go out until i pulled over and looked.

You'd be surprised how many vehicles use aluminum now - it all has to do with weight savings and MPG. Plastic is also used quite a bit now too; most of the step side trucks that are out there use SMC which is a structural type of plastic!

I wouldn't worry too much about it flexing. It'll hold up!

Mine flexes as well but I have only noticed it when I pass a semi going the oppisate direction.

There's nothing wrong with aluminum hoods, and they've been around for a while on a few cars. My 97 Lincoln Mark VIII had one, and the sticker price on it was $41K. I sold it in 2005 with around 60,000 miles, and the hood looked like new.
