Default 4x4 problem. need fixed tomorrow! please

ok so here it is. my 4 wheel drive hasnt worked in a while and wasnt worried about it cuz thers a while till snow and i have a tractor if i need to get anywhere in the woods or on my farm. my dumb luck i got that stuck today so i gotta fix my truck to pull it out now. transfer case seems ok and shifter feels good but when i shift into 4 high it doesnt work and my dash light doesnt even go on. any ideas would be great. was told maybe the vaccum motor on the front axle but i kno nothing about it or where to get it.

The vaccine could be the problem. It basically acts as your locking hubs. You can tell if you can still see under the truck and your front driveshaft will spin but you wheels dont. If your driveshaft isn't spinning them it's something in the t case

Here is a flow chart to help diagnose the the issue with you central axle disconnect which is located on the back side of the passenger side axle tube. Hopefully it will be big enough to read.

If the drive shaft spins the first place I would start looking at the vacuum lines for the system. If one is cracked, broke, or unplugged it would cause the front end not to engage. Next I would check the assembly on the front end and make sure vacuum is getting to it. If it is getting vacuum them take the housing off the tube and see if the shift for moves when you shift the transfercase. If it don't the diaphragm is bad and needs replaced. If you are not getting vacuum to the diaphragm then the vacuum switch on the case is most likely bad.

I just went thru the same problem a coupla weeks ago, and found that there are two tubes that run across the tranny crossmember. theres a silicone rubber coupler hose on the drivers side of the crossmember on each of those tubes, one of mine was off. they are now ziptied onto the tubes, at least they wont just fall off, now... and the engine doesn't knock undr load any more...
