Default Towing with my 2011 Hemi

Hello, I am a Newbie to his site. We just purchased a new 2011 Ram with the Hemi engine and plan to pull a new (future) trailer with it. Not sure yet if it will be a travel trailer or a 5th wheel. I'd sure like to hear from other owners how their experience has been with the Hemi as a tow vehicle.
Thanks in advnce.

You should be just fine. Ive got a 26 foot bumper pull that I pull regularly (in the summer) with my hemi. I've got 3.93 anti slip rears and the tow package with factory brake controller in mine and I can go up a 10% grade at 130 km/hr! That's over 80 miles/hr for you folks to the south. 5th wheels tow even easier than a bumper pull. I'd say you should be good to anything up to around 28-29 feet in length unless you're looking at getting a toy hauler camper, then you may need a diesel.

The towing experience has been fine. You just want to make sure you have the right hitch for the load and don't exceed your GVWR when hooked up and ready to go.

I tow 29ft rvision, weighs about 4700 to 5000pds loaded. I have the standard rear but tow package and factory brake control with a Reese dual cam sway weight distro system. The hitch system most likely is not needed but was with my last rig.

I can go as fast as I want to go but when I am pushing 70 miles I pay for it at the pump. average probably 7 to 8 miles per gallon. Now if I keep 60 miles and let it lose some speed on the hills and pick back up on the down hills or flats I can pull and easy 12 to 13 miles per gallon out of it.

This is just a guess

Quad cab, Hemi engine, 3.92 axle ratio, Class 4 hitch receiver
weight of 3 adults, bed loaded
you should be able to pull a loaded trailer weighing 7,000 pounds

i would load the Ram with what you plan on having in it while pulling a trailer, go to a PUBLIC SCALES, Mayflower & other moving companies usually have a set of scales, walk up to the scale house, there will be a Weigh Master inside. Tell them what you want to do & let him know that do NOT need a Certificate, he will likely tell you to pull on the scale & he will orally give you your weight, most times they won't charge you because he didn't need to do any paper work.
Using that weight, lets you know what weight trailer that you can pull

anything over 5,000 pounds should also have a weight distribution system

Default Towed mine today

Hello,
I towed my 2006 Crossroads Cruiser home today. my 2011 Ram 2500, 5.7 L towed it much better than the 02 Chevy 2500 6.0L did. The camper is a fifth wheel. Stopped at the weight scales on the way home. Camper weighed 9,880 lbs. Pin weight was 2,280 lbs. With the 2500 I was within all gross weight limits. Towed great. Averaged 8.9 MPG. Average 17 to 20 MPG when not towing. Love the truck.

16' steel trailer with my 3400lb car on it. Tows fine, actually have to remember it's back there. No shortage of power and quite stable at highway speeds.
