Default EVIC gas mileage inaccurate

I've taken several (freeway) trips and calc'd mpg by gas purchased/miles driven and the actual is always ~10%-12% less than the EVIC report for the trip.

I see a LOT of people reporting their mpg from "computer" which I assume is the EVIC - is it only my EVIC that is so far off????

Is there anyway to adjust the EVIC mpg figure? It would be nice to have an accurate calculation of Distance to Empty for instance

Mine is consistently off 1.5 mpg. Measured mileage is 16mpg, EVIC says 17.5.

Also note that your Distance tilll Empty will plummet when you get down close to empty.

My truck doesnt have EVIC. However it can be effected by the specific gravity of the fuel you use. For instance it will likely be more accurate with G100 than E15.

EVIC mpg measurements are a dynamic, in the moment, kind of measurement and only show what the current mileage figure is, not a combined mileage figure.

I just calculate my MPG the old fashioned way - Miles traveled / gallons used = MPG

^^^What Maddog said^^^

Also, the electric fuel pump is cooled by the fuel. As you empty the fuel tank the pump runs hotter/less efficiently. If you tend to run the tank to nearly empty (as I do sometimes) you'll notice that the EVIC and Calculated values will be farther apart. Try only using 1/2 a tank and then fillng it up again and you'll see that the EVIC value won't drift quite as badly.
