Default trying to decide best options

I'm new to this forum and am actually going to buy a new RAM soon. Im trying to decide which nav radio is best between the 430 and 730. I also cant decide onwhich gears to go with. I know the 3.92 can tow more but are hard to find. Most in this area are 3.55 so which would I better off with? Would i actually get better gas mileage with the 3.55? Thanks for any advise!!

3:92 gears is a must. I traded in a 2010 for 2011 because I hated 3:55 gears. I will never ever own another truck with 3:55 gears.

I would agree on the 3.92 gears. I think most of the folks on this forum would feel the same way. As for the radio, I am not sure of the difference between the two so I would suggest looking at their specs side by side and determining if the difference is worth paying more. I have the 430n and it does all I need it to do.

I do not have 3.92 gears and I love my truck. I have never had a complaint about the get up and go of my truck. I don't tow much but the time I had to move it hauled the largest U-haul trailer I could rent up and down the hills of Colorado at freeway speeds just fine. As for mpg I can get 17.5-18mpg regularly taking the back roads to work (2 lane, 40-55mph with stop signs and stop lights). I haven't done a true road trip yet so I don't know the freeway mpg........ yet

I would suggest you get the 730 since there is more support for that radio. I have the 430 (non-nav) and have had to search hard for information and support on it. I also suggest you educate yourself on the Uconnect and Bluetooth add-ons. You can search these boards for more info but the best way to be sure that they are installed and working is to test it with your devices before purchasing.

Hope that helps

I would definitely go with the 3.92s if you can!

If you're not towing much, or seeing much dragstrip use, the 3.55s are fine. I don't believe you'd really see much difference. Get the truck you want for the sum of the options, not by analysis paralysis.

Either way, you'll love it!

I do a fair amount of towing around the 3-4k range and I only have the 3.55 and the 4.7 engine and I have 0 complaints.. at 70 I can still get 17mpg and I have no problems with take off from a red light our getting up to speed coming down a exit ramp on to the interstate.

I have a 2011 Ram 1500 Tradesman, regular cab, 8ft (open) bed (no cover), 5.7 hemi, 3.55 rear, 2400 miles on truck so far. Bought it brand new in September 2011. 99% of my driving is highway. I don't have that fancy instrument cluster, so I have to calculate my MPG by hand. I've kept scrupulous records. I've been using 87 Octane with out ethanol. Was getting 17, then 18, then 19, and now when I filled up today, 21.28 MPG! My little 2001 Toyota Tacoma only got 22MPG. I drive my Ram like an old fart (probably because I am an old fart at 66). Hey ! Us old farts gotta stick together ! I do a little towing of firewood that weighs maybe 3500 to 4000 pounds. No problem for the Ram. Thinking of getting an RV in the 4000 to 5000 pound weight class. Should be no problem as my truck is rated to tow 8900 pounds. With factory rebates, I got my truck for $18995. If you have a family, you'll probably want a bigger cab. My truck is perfect for the "occasional" towing I do. I have no problem with the 3.55 rear. It all depends on how much you'll be towing, and how often. I wanted the better MPG of the 3.55 rear. If I were towing a lot and often, then I'd go with the 3.92 which is rated to tow 10,400 pounds (given my trucks other specs). Here's a link to the Ram towing charts. http://www.ramtrucks.com/shared/pdf/..._Tow_Chart.pdf

If ya want a lot of truck at a really good price, check this out: http://www.lynchchryslerdodgejeep.co...46cc2d8926.htm
Check out it's specs. Pretty impressive !
MPG (13 & 19) and towing capacity (8,750 lbs) are down just a smidge because it's a 4X4.
A truck like this should do anything you realistically expect to do.
You should be able to find deals like this in your area.

Hope this helps and I luv this forum !

Don

I don't see anything wrong with 3.55 gears, there is tons of power with them. Unless you plan on doing lots of heavy towing you may not need the 3.92 gears..

The gear thing cracks me up, if you can find the same equipped truck with both gears yea I would get the 3.92. If the truck you want doesnt have em its no big deal. When i was buying I drove both and meh didnt notice a difference and got the crew and 3.55 with lsd instead of a quad with 3.92. Also 2 of my buddies have bought '11 Sports this summer so i got to do test driving again and again no difference. One of them just happen to get 3.92 but didnt get the lsd...doh! Other buddy was in the position I was, crew with 3.55 or quad with 3.92 and he got the crewcab wth 3.55. We've ran em for fun from 20 and 30 up and he'll jump me a truck and put another truck on me by 80...but he's stock and I'm stock plus 37s :-)
The gears never were a big deal to me because regaurdless what was stock, 4.56 and a locker would be going in anyhow!

For the Nav I have the 430N. I finally got to play with the 730n in a truck my buddy test drove over night. I thought it was fancier and more confusing lol. Being that the 430 in is about a grand cheaper and easier to operate, I'd get the 430n.
