Default Considering buying a 96 Dodge Ram

I'm considering buying a 1996 Dodge Ram that I found on Craigslist. I don't know the engine size yet I'm planning on calling them later today.
Here's the link:
http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/2658649725.html

I like the fact that it only has 89k on it, but I'm wondering if the tranny issue is something that I'm going to want to stay away from. On the other hand, at that price it may be worth it. Opinions?

Talking 96 Ram

Hi there. I had a 96 Extended Cab 2wd with the 5.9. I loved that truck, ran great, no engine or tranny problems. The only thing wrong with mine was the front rotors were warped, which is fairly common. It had 122k when it was wrecked. I'd say go for it.

Ok! It looks like the trans is pretty cheap to replace considering how common these trucks are.
Thanks!

Transmission issues are a crap shoot some give issues some never do my dads 2500 4x4 blew at 90,000 with regular service. But with the low miles on the truck id change everything cause that means it sat alot. Not to say its a bad thing just moisture and temp changes brake things down over time

Fair enough. This may sound like a dumb question but would it be better to get one with higher mileage cause it hasn't sat? Or are you just saying that I need to change the fluids on this one?

id change fluids on that one. Most service needs to be done every 30,000 anyway. If its in good running order cheep enough dont pass it up.

Right, my only concern is the trans, the ad says something is wrong with the 2nd gear, I dunno if it's a manual or an auto. I know I can get a new tranny pretty cheap but installation most likely wont be cheap.

Ya if its an auto, prob is could be anything from sensor to band ajustment when you test drive it take it to a good shop. They will usually check it out for you.

Will do. I'm reasonably sure it's an auto cause I reread the ad and it says it takes a while to shift, so that means auto.
