Default New tire losing pressure because of rim

Hi there,

Last month I purchased a 2003 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 Hemi and am happy with my purchase but I have a rim problem that I would like to discuss. My rims are the 17" (5 bolt) alloys.

The truck had new tires (P rated) and I knew I would have to get a set of LT tires anyways. I noticed one tire was losing pressure, it would be down to about 20 psi from 32 after a couple weeks. I figured it was because the tire wasn't fitted on the rim correctly or it had a hole or it was because it wasn't an LT tire and wasn't suitable. So i got a good set of LT tires put on and the new tire on the same rim was losing pressure at the same rate as well. That pretty much narrows it down to the rim being the problem I assume.

Is there a way of fixing the rim somehow or is it in my best interest to get a new rim? Thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback.

Assuming that the rubber valve stems where changed with each tire replacement that does narrrow it down to the rim. The options are to replace that rim or get it fixed assuming you can find the leak in it. Fixing it may cost more than a replacement would.

It's common to have corrosion happen around the bead. You can sand it off and apply a type of bead sealant there and build it up with a few coats. Make sure the stem is good and not leaking. A dunk tank won't find a real slow leak unless you put in 70+ lbs of air.

If it is the rim (and I like those ^^^^ suggestions to narrow it down), then the rim is cracked somewhere, which means you should replace it.

Take a soapy solution in a spray bottle and spray where the rim and tire bead meets, its it starts bubbling really bad its corrosion on the rim and will need to be sanded off, thats what im expecting considering your from the east coast.
