Default Stalling going from Drive to park!!

Well finally decided it was time to get a truck, so I picked up a 2003 Dodge Ram 4.7 Quad Cab.... Truck runs good and had no major problems when I got it except the heater core that wasn't easy to get to!! The day I bought the truck I filled it up and after doing so I got a CEL with a p0442 code.... I erased it and it did come back... I noticed that the cap he had on was from a chevy, I went and bought a new cap and cleared the codes and so far has not come back.... My main problem now is, after the heater core was changed the truck is now stalling sometimes just idling in drive, but almost every time I stop and either go from drive to reverse or drive to park, the truck will stall 90% of the time.... I really don't know where to go, it idles fine sometime but also drops to about 400rpms... any ideas on where to start... thanks in advance and sorry for the long first post... just wanted all the information I know out there... the truck ran fine with no stalling before the heater core was replaced.... the battery was disconnected for about half a day while doing the heater core, does the truck have a memory or have to reboot itself by going thru a cycle?? any ideas

The engine controller does have to "re-learn" how to run the engine after the battery has been disconnected, but it usually takes a couple of minutes before it'll idle by itself. One think that can contribute to stalling at any time and even moreso when the PCM is re-learning is a dirty automatic idle speed control valve (beside the throttle body) and a dirty throttle body. A 2003 truck is probably due for a good throttle body cleaning, so give that a try and see if it helps.

I had a similar problem with idle stalling and drive to park/reverse/neutral. Replaced the PCV valve and it went away.

I too have a similar problem. My trucks runs, idles, and drives great but every now and then, usually at a stop sign/light, it will idle down really low. Probably around 400 RPM. It seems random best I can tell. It has never actually stalled out but it has come close a time or two when it was doing this and I went into reverse or drive. I cleaned my TB a few months ago and it didn't seem to make a difference. Also had the PCV valve swapped by the dealer right before that and also no difference. My next option is to replace the throttle position sensor (as it is the cheapest at about $35) and then the idle air control valve (about $65). I just haven't done it yet because I'm hesitant to spend the money on something that may or may not fix the problem that as of now, hasn't really caused me any trouble.

Also, no CEL either.
