Default Tach problem ?

hey guy's my problem is my tach motor in my cluster just died , so no rpm
but now i want to install a tach , no need the shift light , my truck is auto, and i know the coil over the plug is a problem with some tach model, beside the wire from the plug or injector , is there another wire can i find to plug the tach in ?? like in the cluster ? and do i really need the adapter to connect a ( regular tach ) ???

i got a dodge ram slt 2008 5.7 hemi

Not so lucky.
The factory tack doesn't even connect to the engine anywhere. It receives data from the PCM to tell it where to move the pointer to. For an aftermarket tack, you will require some sort of sensor system that is made specially for the Hemi, as all plug fire twice per cycle. In the old school tack world, this look like a 16 cyl engine.
And since the days of pulling the pulse off the coil are gone.......yup.....the closest thing to a tack signal will be a fuel injector, or in some cases, a crankshaft position sensor. Might be easier to fix the factory tach.

I have an '06 Hemi with just under 40k on it and my tach just started acting crazy like you described. I got nervous at first because it was showing idle at like 200-300RPM but with a little more exploring the engine is running fine it's the tach in the dash being ridiculous. Apparently it's a 3rd gen issue, at least that is what I am seeing when I google it. Hopefully someone knows what is going on with them.
