Default Hard shutter at cruising speed

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 4x4 QC with the 5.9 engine. I have had the truck for about 4 months and have put around 5000 miles on it so far. The truck now has 93,xxx miles on it and except for the fuel mileage I have really like the truck (I knew the MPG would not be good). The previous owner took great care of the truck. It wasn't his daily driver. I have put a set of shocks front and back (coil overs on the back) and upper control arms but thats it so far. My concern is that a couple of times while at cruising speed I have had a hard shutter like something just come loose and grapped again. It just hits once and goes away. There is no vibration. You would almost think you hit a bad pothole in the road. Has anyone has something like this? Ideas? I thought about torque converter but like others I've had trouble with they'll shutter in and out several time before they quit.

Thanks!

sounds like tourqe converter shutter...id deff check your tranny fluid and condition asap... if the liquid is dark or milky ur best bet would be to drain it and refill it. do not flush it....if this doesnt work and it is the tourqe converter you should seek a tranny shop

Sounds like a torque converter lockup issue.

A bad TPS can give you that feeling... Feels kinda like the tranny is wanting to shift and then changes it's mind really quick? Do this: Before you start it, floor board the throttle and let off really quick a few times. It kinda cleans the crap off the TPS potentiometer. Then go drive it. If you don't feel it again for a few drive cycles, then there's your problem. I only say this because I have the same setup you do and it was doing it to me. I've also had 3 other people come into our shop with Durangoes and Dakotas with the same issue. TPS every time...

Thanks for the info. The transmission was serviced about 10,000 miles ago according to the recepts from the guy I bought the truck from. I hope the TPS is the problem plus it an easy think to try.

Yeah, easy swap. I will warn you though, when you replace it, it'll act like it doesn't want to run. Just keep starting it until it idles, then let it sit for a few minutes. The new TPS will have to "learn" its position.
